CURRENT HIGHLIGHTS

AIA Kentucky Golf Outing - moved to October 14, 2010
AIA Kentucky's annual Golf Outing, usually held in May or June, will this year be incorporated into the AIA Kentucky/AIA Indiana Convention program in October.  Our conference at Belterra Casino Resort & Spa in Florence, Indiana affords us the opportunity to hold this event at Belterra's beautiful on-site golf course, which we believe will help generate strong attendance from Kentucky and Indiana architects at both events. Stay tuned for more information.

New Program for Emerging Professionals

Hands-On Training in Roofing, Tile, Door Hardware

Emerging Professionals Hands-On Training (EP/HOT) is a new program designed to provide architectural interns and newly licensed architects with opportunities for instruction and hands-on training in key components of construction. Historically, more experienced architects have developed vital relationships with product vendors, contractors and other industry members who are invaluable partners in identifying and resolving issues related to the architect's projects. Opportunities to develop these kinds of relationships have not been as readily available to those just entering the profession.  AIA Kentucky and Builders Exchange of Kentucky want to remedy that through the EP/HOT program.

EP/HOT sessions are available FREE OF CHARGE to Associate AIA members and AIA architect members licensed within the past 10 years. These two groups will have priority access to these programs. If you do not qualify in one of these categories, please do not register until 7 days prior to the program. If seats are available, participation will also be open to other AIA architect members (free), non-member architects ($50 fee) and non-member IDP candidates ($25 fee).

A limited number of seats are available and advance registration is required. Waitlist registration will be available once all seats are full. We will ask confirmed registrants to re-confirm participation 48 hours in advance of the program, and any cancelled seats will be offered to persons on the waitlist.

To date, three EP/HOT programs have been developed:
  • Fundamentals of Tile
  • Fundamentals of Roofing
  • Fundamentals of Door Hardware
2010 dates and locations have not been determined.  For each session, approximately 90 minutes of classroom instruction will be provided, with ample opportunity for questions. This will be followed by another 90 minute period that will include demonstrations of product fabrication and applications, construction methodology and hands-on exercises, with discussion of shared experience and lessons learned. Participants will gain a practical understanding of each topic that will assist them in project design, specification-writing, and construction administration.

This program will earn three (3) AIA/CES Learning Units in health, safety & welfare topics. AIA Kentucky will report these credits to AIA for all AIA members attending. We believe the program will also be eligible for three (3) PDUs in health, safety and welfare toward Kentucky state licensing requirements. Individuals are responsible for reporting credits to the Kentucky Board of Architects. AIA Kentucky will provide attendance verification forms. IDP candidates are encouraged to submit programs for IDP credit.

AIA Launches "Walk the Walk" Campaign

Advocates Sustainable Buildings & Communities

The "Walk the Walk" Campaign was developed to position the AIA in a leadership role in the area of sustainable buildings and communities thereby establishing AIA architects as the people capable of leading the nation into a new era of environmentally-friendly thinking.

"Walk the Walk" was born from the idea that there is a lot of talk about the future of the planet but not enough action being taken to set us on the right path. At its core,  "Walk the Walk" is an "empowerment" campaign designed to let people know that a course of action is available.
